Monday, November 10

Homework folders for this week will go home on Thursday and will be expected back by the following Wednesday, November 19th. This is because we have two short weeks in a row.

Students and parents are reminded that there is no school tomorrow, November 11th. Good luck to all parents who will be fishing tomorrow!

There is also no school on Thursday, November 20th, and Friday, November 21st. Report cards will be going home on Monday, November 17th, and parent-teacher interviews will be on Wednesday, November 19th.

Grades 5 and 6 will be having a Math test on THURSDAY this week. They should study from their grade 5 math books, using SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW as the base for their review.

A big welcome to Alicia! Welcome back! It's nice to have you in our class again!

Monday, October 27

Homework and Reminders:

  • HWF due by Friday. There are only math sheets in the folder today. Students will be bringing home a timeline to work on tomorrow night. It is also due by Friday.
  • Finish spelling sentences, study spelling
  • Read for 15 minutes
  • Study multiplications facts. A few students are now struggling in math because they are not sharp with their multiplication facts. The better you know them, the easier math will be!

My class will also be making a trip to the library on Wednesday. We will be going up on the 9:30 ferry and returning at 11:40, just in time for lunch! Please bring along any overdue library books, or any fees that you might owe.

On Wednesday, November 5th we will have a special guest in our school. Mr.Robert Rayner, a well known New Brunswick author, will pay a visit to our school to do some reading, writing and singing. He will also be available after school if anyone wishes to purchase one of his books and have him sign it. He has just released his first children's (ages 6-10) book called "Libby On Strike". He will be doing a reading of this book while at our school. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Please check the blog often as I am going to update it at least once a week.

Thanks!

Another Idea!!

I was just given another great idea! Another way to present your Million Dollar Math project. Instead of presenting it in Power Point, you may also present it as a PHOTOSTORY.

Photostory is a program offered as a free download from microsoft. It is very easy to use, and the kids might really enjoy learning about it.

It can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx

If you have any questions, again, please feel free to contact me.

Happy Mathing!!

Million Dollar Math Help

Welcome back to Mrs.Steeves' Homework Blog!

It's great to have the kids back at school, and our year is off to a great start. I will make an effort to post more regularly this year.

In response to some parent's questions about the Million Dollar Math project, if you do not have power point on your computer, openoffice is another option for creating your presentation.

Openoffice is like microsoft office, but it is free and available online. I'm not all that familiar with the programs, but I do know of several people who run it and really like it.

It can be found at http://why.openoffice.org/

You will need to use the program called Impress to create your presentation. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me an email. I'll help you out in any way that I can.

Good luck!

Mrs.Steeves
